Supplemental Funding for Study Abroad

Study Abroad Awards

The generosity of donors to Tulane makes it possible for the Office of Study Abroad to offer several awards to supplement student budgets for study abroad. The objectives and eligibility requirements of the different awards are described below. Ann and John Rossi Award

The Ann and John Rossi Award seeks to enrich the intellectual and cultural experiences abroad for outstanding Newcomb-Tulane undergraduates by providing funding for activities above and beyond the normal cost of attendance for a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Program. Ann and John Rossi Award will be selected based on strength of personal statement, academic performance, and appropriateness of the student’s chosen study abroad program to the student’s course of study at Tulane University.  Recipients should demonstrate intellectual curiosity both in- and outside the classroom.

Eligibility:
  • Approval to participate in a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Program or ISO study abroad program.
  • Good Academic & Disciplinary Standing
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA

 Corasaniti Study Abroad Award

The Corasaniti Study Abroad Award supports the study abroad experience of students majoring in political science, economics, political economy, or a modern foreign language. The grant will be awarded on the basis of both merit and financial need. Merit will be assessed on the basis of GPA, a faculty recommendation, and an essay written by the applicant. Financial need will be determined by the student’s status as reported by the Office of Financial Aid.  Applicants should write a two-page essay explaining their decision to study abroad in the 2016-2017 academic year, and what they hope to gain from the experience. Winners of the Corasaniti Study Abroad Award may be required to speak about their experience as part of a panel discussion, roundtable, or informational luncheon upon their return.

  • Approval to participate in a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Program or ISO study abroad program.
  • Good Academic & Disciplinary Standing
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Financial Needs

Darden Study Abroad Award:

The Darden Study Abroad Award seeks to enrich the intellectual and cultural experiences abroad for outstanding Newcomb-Tulane undergraduates by providing funding for activities above and beyond the normal cost of attendance for a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Program. Darden Scholars will be selected based on strength of personal statement, academic performance, and appropriateness of the student’s chosen study abroad program to the student’s course of study at Tulane University. Recipients should demonstrate intellectual curiosity both in and outside the classroom.

  • Approval to participate in a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Program or ISO for the Spring 2016.
  • Good Academic & Disciplinary Standing
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA

Israel Study Abroad Award

The Israel Study Abroad Award support students studying abroad in Israel.

Eligibility: Preference shall be given to students majoring or minoring in Jewish Studies.

Jacquelyn Smiley Robinson Award

The Jacquelyn Smiley Robinson Award will award one scholarship to one Newcomb-Tulane student to use toward the cost of their Study Abroad program.

Eligibility:  Preference will be given to students who meet one or more of these criteria:
  • Approval to participlate in a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Proram or ISO study abroad program.
  • Good Academic & Disciplinary Standing.
  • Is African-American or a member of a group that is a disadvantaged ethnic minority at Tulane;
  • Participating in a year-long program in France;
  • In need of financial aid;
  • Is majoring or minoring in French.

Robert I. Grossman, M.D. Award

The Robert I. Grossman, M.D. Study Abroad Award will be awarded to students to use  toward the cost of a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad program.

Eligibility:
  • Approval to participate in a Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Program or ISO for the Spring 2016
  • Good Academic & Disciplinary Standing
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA
